About Us

The dance academy has been running in Petersfield/Sheet Village since 1976 & changed name in 2004 when it changed Principal. We offer classes taught by experienced, qualified teachers & trained professionals in the industry.

Our aim at PAD is to teach children to dance in a fun & friendly environment and inspire a love of dancing & performing whilst achieving very high standards.

We enjoy successful examination & competition results & have many ex-students that have gone on to train at top stage/ballet schools such as: Laine Theatre Arts, Urdang, Bird, Tring, Royal Ballet Schools White Lodge, Central School of Ballet, Rambert, Wilkes & many more….

We offer classes for ages 3+ (Pre-School to Advanced 2) in the following genres:

ISTD Ballet – ISTD Tap – ISTD Modern – Jazz/Stretch – Contemporary – Progressing Ballet Technique – Pre-Pointe – Pointe – Private Lessons – Biennial Show for all at PAD.

All students have the opportunity to take ISTD examinations if they wish & all are invited to take part in our school show that takes place biennially at the Festival Hall, Petersfield. The show is so much fun & everyone has their chance to shine.

We offer some of our talented students the opportunity to perform & compete at competitions around the country. We belong to the All England Dance Association which organises local dance festivals where students compete in a variety of dance genres. Marks are awarded & students achieving high marks are invited to enter the Regional Finals & from there some get to compete at National level in London for the finals. We also enter the Marjorie Davies Tap Awards, a very prestigious competition held in London & the ISTD Ballet Awards. We have had finalists at both & awards won.

We also have students that have represented England & won medals at the Dance World Cup & the Tap World Championships.

ISTD Examinations

Children’s examinations have been devised to give them a sense of achievement. This is for children who dance for fun & children who may wish to make dance a career. Grades from Pre-Primary upward progressively develop children’s technical ability, giving them a sense of dance combined with a sense of natural grace & poise, also appreciation of dance & it’s relationship to music.

At PAD we encourage our students to take examinations provided by the ‘Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing’ (ISTD)

The child’s teacher decides when a child is ready for an exam. This is usually after four or five terms of study. It is essential to have a good knowledge & understanding of the syllabus & additional coaching classes are provided before the examination to ensure the child is confident. We are aware that for various reasons some children are unable to take examinations & these children are moved up to the next grade when appropriate. Pupils can take exams from age 5+.
